Prom, a formal dance, especially one held by a class in high school or college at the end of a year. Students are able to enjoy themselves by dressing in high class materials, enjoy music and dance with their fellow students. This year Prom was a success with a minor flaw. In every High School Prom there is a station that you can store your belongings such as coats, purses, wallets etc. This is usually known as the Coat Check.

This year the Coat Check had a bit of a mishap. Lead by Student Council every year, things were misplaced or were not able to be found. With students getting frustrated they took it in their own hands and decided to storm the coat check finding their own belongings.

Brooke Wise, senior and nominated Prom Queen, was a victim of this accident. Wise was one of the first to go to coat check and was forced into the crowd when the students stormed the coat check.

“I was actually part of the crowd that was pushed in and I did not want to go in and I ended up getting pushed all the way to the back of coat check. I also checked in a little purse and it had my phone in it, but I was actually given my phone back separately and it was just completely smashed and I didn’t get my purse back till an hour later,” said Wise.

Men’s coats were place on coat racks while Women’s belongings were stored in bags on the floor. While students entered the coat check, belongings were ripped, smashed and destroyed, Wise’s phone was one of her belongings that was damaged. She has been going around school to figure out if she can be payed for the damages or anything Lewis-Palmer could do.

“I’m trying to talk to whoever I can to see if I can get reimbursed for it cause it was not my fault, yet I have gone to different departments in the school and they would send me to another department. I even tried to go to security for an accident report and they told me that wasn’t their job and didn’t help,” said Wise.

Kendra Boone, English teacher here at Lewis-Palmer High School, is head of the Student Council. Boone was present for the Prom and saw what happened at Coat Check.

“We had our Student Council in the Coat Check and there was a table blocking the entrance. All the coats were on the hangers numbered along with purses and bags that were also numbered on the floor, primarily boys that were seniors crashed over the table and started grabbing things and smashing phones and that’s why it all went to chaos,” said Boone.

Boone believes that Coat Check was not unorganized due to the fact everything was numerically ordered. She also feels that if the students were more patient that none of this would have happened, due to the number of coats and belongings in the Coat Check.

“It will always take time due to how many students were at Prom, to go through all of the items and find the right ones and our students just became a little disrespectful and lead to what happened,” said Boone.

Nevertheless Prom was a huge success, while with After Prom an hour later Students enjoyed activities such as Gambling, Twister and Bouncy Houses. With damages done to students belongings it is still unknown if any students will be reimbursed for what the students did at Coat Check.
