After two years of having the after prom event at Mr. Biggs, this year the parent organizing committee brings After Prom back to Bear Creek. After Prom used to be held both at Creekside Middle School and Lewis-Palmer Middle School before Mr. Biggs ever came into the picture.

This year Karen Shuman and the organizing committee of parents have gone through many troubles to try and make this After Prom a blast for the upperclassmen, and the few underclassmen that get to attend the prom night events.  Students might have been wondering why the event couldn’t be somewhere other than Bear Creek, but the parents tried getting the venue at a different location.

The committee had been in touch with Brunswick Zone since last May, in 2012. Brunswick was asking a price that was 4X what they had paid for Mr. Biggs. They tried negotiating the price down but in October of 2012 Brunswick gave their final offer which would have made After Prom tickets more expensive than the already pricey Prom tickets.

Shuman tried looking into having it at Lewis-Palmer High School, but there was to be an antique show held there that weekend and it had been booked out several months in advance.

After Brunswick Zone and the high school fell through, Shuman looked into the local YMCA where Discovery Canyon Campus has their After Prom. This would have allowed the students to swim in the pool and use the multiple facilities except for the work-out equipment.

Shuman brought with her the committees inflatable sponsor to check out the location with her. The YMCA was not the type of location the inflatable sponsor was looking for. They then went to look at Bear Creek and it was a clear answer to the inflatable man that this was the perfect location.

Finally with the location of the event settled Shuman went hard at work with the committee to make this After Prom one that none would forget. The committee decided the theme of After Prom would be a beach party that is Colorado style of course.

The committee also worked hard to get the administration to okay the inflatables which are technically not allowed at all with in the district.

This year at the event many activities will include: human hamster ball, human foosball, inflatable obstacle courses, volleyball, twister, a casino, and many other fun activities. Seems as though the parents are working really hard to step up their game and make this After Prom just as fun as the previous ones at Mr. Biggs.
