Madeline Bisland struts the hallways in her vintage-style outfit. She bought her hair bow from Love Culture and got her shirt, boots, and jewelry from Forever 21.

The vintage fashion fad is taking over teen girls in Monument this year.  Many students are jumping at the chance to wear this antique style of clothing.

Common aspects of this fad seen walking around the school include lace, bows, and loose fitting shirts all tied together with gold jewelry, and pale pinks.

“It’s really comfy because everything’s over-sized, and it’s so feminine” junior Madeline Bisland said.

Stores such as Forever 21, Urban Outfitters, Love Culture and H&M are popular places to shop for vintage styles that will surely impress.

Even though this old school fad has been circulating since fall, how long this fad will last remains unknown. Based on past trends in the school, fashion crazes can last anywhere from a month to an entire school year.

“I think it will last until the end of the school year and it may go through the first month of summer break” Bisland said.

Which fashion fad will be next is still unpredictable, especially when individual style is constantly changing. People will just have to wait and find out what’s hot, and what’s not.

Some students find their inspiration for style and fashion trends through the popular crowd. But many wonder where they found these fads.

“Most of my sense of style comes from fashion magazines and celebrities” Bisland said.

Just because many girls are following this recent trend doesn’t mean everyone is. Some students at Lewis-Palmer have other ideas on what styles are in.

“I don’t like to wear vintage clothing because this is 2012 not the 1920s” freshman Catherine Witt said.

Students who aren’t following the crowd are sticking to the modern-day styles of tight fitting tees and bold colors. But some styles end up blending perfectly with both eras such as skinny jeans and brand name shoes such as Converse and Toms.

No matter what style a person wears, everyone has their own unique opinions on what looks appealing. Whether it’s the latest fad or an alternative trend, students are consistently aware of what they wear.
