Kai Brown and Chandler Marshall are just two of many seniors who are playing a sport in college.

Brown will be attending UCCS, University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, where she received a full scholarship for basketball.

“I was shocked at first, then really happy. I accomplished the goal I set forth at the beginning of the season,” Brown said.

Marshall received a scholarship to dive at SDSU, San Diego State University.

“My scholarship is the highest one SDSU has given a diver in the history of this school,” Marshall said.

The heavy work load in college does not intimidate Brown or Marshall at all.

“I’ll organize my time wisely and plan out everything. I am pretty confident about managing my time,” Brown said.

“I have always had to deal with balancing practice and school because I have always been in a competitive sport (gymnastics, pole vaulting, and diving), so I think I will do okay with managing my time. Division 1 schools require hours of tutoring and study hall per week for athletes, so that should help out a ton,” Marshall said.

Parents of these athletes share the same feelings.

“My parents are happy because they do not have to pay for anything. They are supportive and encouraging,” Brown said.

“My whole family is very excited for me and for the next step in my life, to be able to compete at a high level,” Marshall said.

Both girls have been practicing their sport since each was very young, and their successes show great dedication. Brown and Marshall are very excited to play the sport in college.

Marshall and Brown prove that practicing hard, dedication and commitment go a long way.

“From the beginning my coach told me that I was going to get a scholarship, so the big decision was where I wanted to attend school. Once I decided SDSU, I was so thrilled, and I cannot not wait to start college,” Marshall said.
