New spring sports have started up, and the Lewis-Palmer boys baseball team is at full swing. The new and old players are coming together to dominate the 2012 baseball season.

“I feel like we have a strong team, and we know each other really well. I also think we have really good talent. The new guys will contribute to the team just fine,” Senior Mason Woish said.

Whether it’s the rookies or the veterans from the previous season, the training is not easier or harder for anyone. Baseball coach Tom McCabe expects the very best from all of his players whether  rookie or veteran member of the team.

“We do a lot of warm up and drills during practices. We learn the basics of throwing and batting so we’re prepared for the real thing when we play against other teams,” Woish said.

Last year the baseball team made it pretty far into their seasons. And the boys expect to accomplish the same and more this year. All the baseball players must work together as a team if they expect to excel.

“We need to stay focused. Working hard and practicing good sportsmanship will win us games. And if we don’t win, as a team we need to be able to improve and learn from our mistakes,” Woish said.

Besides all the right moves, the baseball team has experience on their side. Aside from skill, knowledge is also a leading factor to pushing any team to success.

“We have a lot of experience as well,”Woish said. “Between the returning players and the coaches, we will be more than ready when the going gets tough.”

Winning is the focus of any team, but the ranger baseball team thinks about more than the celebration.

“Winning isn’t everything. Just playing and enjoying the sport is all that I need to have fun,” Woish said.

So how far will the boys baseball team get this season? With skill, talent, experience and dedication on their sides the boys will get far, no doubt. But we will just have to go to the games and find out.
