This Wednesday the 11th at the Palmer Ridge Gym, the high school staff members of District 38 compete for the win in a basketball game. Lewis-Palmer has beaten Palmer Ridge in Varsity basketball for the past two years, now it’s the staff’s turn to battle the rivalry. From 7 to 9, students of both schools will cheer on their favorite staff members to victory.

The entry fee is $2 and students pay to one of two tables at the door; a LP or PR table. The Palmer Ridge proceeds will be given to their school’s student counsel fund, while Lewis-Palmer’s will be donated to the Tri-Lakes Cares benefit.

“We aimed for a local charity and Tri- Lakes is where the money will probably go,” said student counsel member Brianna McEwen.

The idea for the game came from PR’s student counsel and many different staff members will be participating. From football coaches to science teachers, the essence of the game is pretty light-hearted.

“I was on the girls’ basketball team in my middle school and only played once. I think I got called by accident and it’s a good thing I missed my only shot because it was on the wrong basket!” said teacher Mrs. De.

De is playing to redeem herself of this menacing memory. She is buying new basketball shoes just for this game and has been practicing with Coach Josh Scott during class on her follow-throughs.

The Palmer Ridge players have been attending practices two times a week since the middle of March. The competition may be rough but this game promises to unite Lewis-Palmer in a whole new way.
