Soda is not allowed in grade level schools due to federal regulations.

The federal regulations state that no soda is allowed to be sold in schools because it contains too many calories, and soda tears away the calcium from bones.

Lunch coordinator Katie DuBois states her opinion on allowing soda at schools.

“I do not believe soda has any positive impact on students. Soda causes a lot more harm than good,”  DuBois said.

Many students may want soda in school to help keep them awake or even for a nice treat throughout the day.

“Coffee has plenty of caffeine in it to keep students awake. Coffee also has a lot less calories,” DuBois said.

Although schools never really had soda for sale, the federal regulation sure is not planning on allowing it.

“There are new regulations starting next year such as how many vegetables and fruits will have to be sold with each lunch. Soda is the last thing on their list,” DuBois said.
