The latest hit superhero movie The Avengers caused a boom in box office sales and in the number of superhero fans. This film was directed by Joss Whedon, and it opened to a wopping $200.3 million at the domestic box office, surpassing Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 which opened at $169.2 million last summer.

One of the major reasons this movie was such a huge success was because of the many great actors featured in it. The lead roles were Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk, Chris Evans as Captain America, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye.

Besides their superior acting skills, the actors also put a sense of familiarity into the film. All of the superheroes featured also starred in their own major motion pictures and already had tremendous fan bases.

The basis of the storyline is that the whole world is at risk of being taken over by Loki, Thor’s evil brother, who has obtained enough power to take control of the human race. By conjoining some of the most popular heroes, it created an unlikely team that could save the planet.

The Avengers is also noted for its impeccable special effects. In every action packed scene, the audience can’t tell the difference between technology and reality.

This sense of engagement in the movie is also accompanied by 3D graphics. Even though it costs more to watch a movie in 3D, it’s definitely worth it for the audience to feel like they’re actually there in the middle of the action because of the added depth. In fact, over 50% percent of viewers paid the extra couple of bucks to see it in 3D.

Whenever there was a break in the action, clever humor was mixed in throughout the film. The fact that there was such frequent use of comedy pleasantly surprised many fans who originally thought the majority of the dialogue would be serious and intense.

If people want to see a movie that’s packed with action, comedy, amazing effects and super heroes, then look no further than The Avengers. This movie has been already called the movie of the year, and I would give this movie a 10 out of 10.
