Smartphones. Laptops. Kindles. Technology has taken over. People have grown to be completely dependent on modern technology.

Many people cannot go a single day without texting or updating their status on Facebook. People are constantly listening to music during school or playing games on their Iphones.

Freshmen Emily Barton feels that people today are completely obsessed with technology. “People are non-stop with Face booking, texting, and playing with games on phones, including myself,” Barton said.

While seated at a lunch table, almost every single person has their smart phone on the table. People are constantly using some form of technology, whether it is texting, reading on a Kindle or Nook, or listening to music on an ipod.

English teacher Mrs. Boone also feels that technology is over used. “Everyone feels the need to be entertained and they do that by surfing the web, going on Facebook, checking their emails and playing games on their phones,” Mrs. Boone said.

Some people still believe that Americans spend time to be with friends and family the old fashioned way.

“We do take advantage of the things we’ve been given, but we don’t let it over power our lives,” freshmen Valerie Finkill said.

Most, however, agree that people use technology excessively. Senior Matthew Coates feels that we are reliant on our devices. “If we were to lose technology, it would be hard to transition. It has its benefits and disadvantages,” Coates said.

Modern day technology is here to stay. It will continue to grow and become more advanced. The old ways of the world will be left in the past, and they will not come back.
