FCA brings a new light to LP

FCA brings a new light to LP

The club closes another very succesful year in prayer.

Two years ago, students at Lewis-Palmer had the inspiration to start a Fellowship of the Christian Athletes at our school. They asked around and finally Mr. Tupper-football and wrestling coach and gym teacher- and Mr. Benton-basketball coach and homeroom teacher- agreed to sponsor the club. It started with minus ten members all meeting at Joey Lebeau’s house and grew into large group with a common purpose; strengthening their faith.

“It is cool to get to know a group of that you can trust that shares and supports your beliefs.” Member Katherine Strausburger said.

A typical FCA meeting consists of opening prayer, a leader directing the meeting through their own influence, and a closing prayer. Coach Benton and Coach Tupper attend meetings that work around their vigorous team schedules. Closing prayer involves the members of FCA confiding in obstacles of their own and their family/friend’s lives, the club then bows their heads to pray for these hardships.

This club surrounds many special bonds; the bond of athletes and the bond of faith. Comparing religion to athletics allows for these students to connect in a very surreal way. Lewis-Palmer’s FCA is also involved in the community. They spend time volunteering and helping those in need.

Anyone is accepted at FCA as long as they have an open mind. As more people attend the club this year, so has their commitment.

“I think it is important to have a support group to keep you accountable and connect with morals and beliefs.” Strausburger said. Some may say that FCA is more than a religiously supporting group; it’s a family.

Contact Coach Tupper or Coach Benton for more information on the club.
