Friday, May 11, 2012 the options art show was held at Lewis- Palmer High School. The options art show is an annual event for the D-38 options students where they show art pieces throughout the semester. All pieces of art follow some sort of curriculum, but allow the students to use original ideas and the medium they wanted to use. The freedom of using all different kinds of materials was a way to get all the kids motivated.

“The beauty of art is that everyone’s solution is different.” Mr. Barkey said. This year the Zone was the theme of the art show. The zone is a place that students strived to reach when making their art projects. It is a place where nothing else matters; you zone out of the rest of the world and only do art.

“I’m not a great artist but I can get into the zone when I write,” Jeffery Schamburg said. Schamburg’s favorite project that he did was a bowling pin that had blue flames from the bottom coming to the top.

Austin James had many projects in the show, ten in total; but his favorite was a painting. The painting was a mix of Pink Floyd, Alice and Wonderland and Rolling Stone. The painting took two weeks to make, starting mid semester.

“There are a lot of talented kids in options that can draw, paint and do things that normal kids can’t do,” James said. The options art show was a success for both the students and the people who attended. It was a great way for the kids to express themselves and have fun.
