A Ranger win on Friday August 31 was no blue moon occurrence for Lewis-Palmer football. With a score of 42-29 the team made the opening game against Sand Creek High School a great starter for the 2012 season.
Last year the Lewis-Palmer varsity football team made an appearance in the class 3A state quarter finals with a 9-3 record. With vital players to the 2011 season Logan and Mason Woish headed off to college, the 2012 season still looks to have a strong offensive line.
Senior Nathan Conner leads one of the state’s most prestigious offenses in all high school divisions. Conner also holds the school record of 137 of 228 passes completed.
Seniors Sean Grundman and Austin Granthan are expected be a big part of this season’s offensive line along with Ricky Anderson, Jason Chiarenza, Matt Brines, and Joe Dell.
After Friday’s game Matt Brines is still awaiting news on his injury. During the first quarter Brines strained his MCL and may have torn ligaments in his ankle, but there is no news on how long he will be out this season.
Along with Brines, Micah Todd watched the game from a safe distance. Todd received the first kickoff and tackled on return when he broke his clavicle. The most recent analysis of Todd’s injury states that he will be out for eight weeks.
Even though Brines and Todd are both out for a while, the LP football team still is expected to make this year a winning season.
