On Saturday September 15th, about 200 people gathered on the Lewis-Palmer baseball field to raise money for the team. The movie, The Hunger Games was projected on a screen right behind home plate.

With admission running $2 a person and concessions being sold during the entire length of the movie, the fundraiser collected over $400. All of the profits went to the LP baseball team, helping them get new supplies for their upcoming Spring Season.

Staff for the event was filled with volunteers coming from the pool of the player’s eager parents. They helped out by taking admission money, stamping hands and running concessions. Even a few of the team member’s little siblings pitched in to help.

After entrance, students laid blankets and sleeping bags down on the field to enjoy the movie. The idea for the fundraiser was none other than the team’s Varsity pitcher and LP Junior, PJ Underwood. He came up with the movie night with the help of Coach McCabb.

“Who doesn’t like The Hunger Games?” Underwood said when questioned about the choice of the movie that was played. “It’s new and everyone likes it.”

Setting up for the fundraiser, including planning and execution involved all members of the Lewis-Palmer baseball team. It was a bonding experience and made them all work together for the better of their imminent season.

The new equipment isn’t the only recent advancement to the Ranger Baseball Field. Coach Dimas hand-crafted the letters spelling, ‘RANGER FIELD’ that are suspended behind the bleachers. During they day they signal to where the team will conquer any rivalry and during the night, they light up.

“They give our field more swag,” Underwood said regarding the letters. Coach Dimas created these letters in his own home. From Coaches to Players, the Lewis-Palmer Baseball Team shows dedication through the good times and the bad.
