The night was finally upon us.  After an exciting spirit week and homecoming football game, Saturday night came with hopes of an amazing dance.

The dance was held in the school commons, the large open area gave students the freedom to move around and dance in big groups. Many students thought it was much nicer than last year, when the dance was held in the small gym.

“The walls and floors were just covered with some black tarp, and the lightning was really weird, this year you actually had room to dance, and it wasn’t quite as hot” sophomore Jordan Arnold said, of last year’s dance.

Another surprising change to this year’s homecoming dance was a live vocal performance by Sean Waldron. Waldron sang “I won’t give up” by Jason Mraz, which gave the dance a romantic atmosphere.

“The DJ was really good, all of my friends liked the music he played and I don’t think anyone was expecting a live performance, it was really cool to be apart of,” sophomore Wyatt Spresser said.

The decorations incorporated well with this year’s theme of Candyland, and caught everyone’s eye, as they followed the colorful “candy road” to the entrance, where bright streamers hung from the ceilings. Inside the commons, larger than life-size lollipops, welcoming gingerbread men, and other favorite candies, made by the art department, were arranged.

Overall, the student body at Lewis-Palmer High School seemed to have a great time at the dance, starting the year off on an exciting note.

“I wish there was another dance sooner than Snowball or Prom” junior JK Balk said.

It appears the student council representatives are going to have a lot to live up to when planning the next school dance.
