A new club titled Spectrum has joined the ranks of the many clubs Lewis-Palmer has to offer. The club’s motto is: “A group that seeks to acknowledge and celebrate the unique gifts and contributions of all individuals in the LP family.”

Spectrum meets every Wednesday at 3:00 in Mrs. Swanson’s room 118. The group sends a clear message of acceptance and individuality.

“We want to embrace everyone as an LP community, instead of groups within LP,” founder senior Brandon Jackson said.

If the club seems familiar, it’s because Spectrum is the newly renovated Gay-Straight Alliance. While they still value acceptance, the focus of the club has shifted.

The club still has group discussions, but the focus is less about gender and sexuality, and more about what it means to be an individual. Each week a member of Spectrum leads a discussion of a topic they are interested in, ranging anywhere from minorities, race, and poverty, to gender differences and religion.

“Spectrum is a more inclusive mission,” Jackson said.

The name Spectrum comes from the spectrum of light. This accurately represents a wide range of characteristics that are all equally important.

“Different parts coming together as a whole,” Jackson said.

Spectrum hopes to move past the cliques at LP and challenge stereotypes. The club has successively transformed to highlight the unique talents everyone possesses here at Lewis-Palmer.
