The new rock album by Flyleaf titled New Horizons, featuring the hit singles “Fire, Fire” and “New Horizons”, was released on October 30th and has been leaving fans wanting more. Sadly, their fans may not be able to get more for a long time.

In spring of 2011, Flyleaf’s lead singer Lacey Sturm, who is known for her amazing vocal talents, announced that she and her husband Joshua Sturm are expecting a son. On April 9, 2011, Joshua “Jack” Lewis Sturm was born.

Now that Lacey has been busy starting a family, she has decided to leave the band after the release of New Horizons. After fans heard the news, they rushed to get the new album the day it was released and immediately began expressing their grief for the loss of Flyleaf’s lead singer.

“It’s unfortunate. It always sucks when a good band loses a member,” senior Tyler Genderon said.

Since the band won’t be the same without her, the absence of Lacey’s vocals could potentially cause the band to become extinct. But one good thing that came out of this was an amazing album to finish with a bang.

“The new album is pretty good, and it’s on the same level as their past albums,” Genderon said.

What makes this album stand out from their past two albums is the unique editing of Lacey’s voice. Her singing isn’t edited in a way that changes her sound completely, but it is transformed into a more modern rock style.

With the new album and announcement of Lacey leaving, people everywhere are listening to New Horizons and enjoying what is left of Flyleaf.
