When thinking of November, people often tend to consider things such as Turkey and NFL games on television. In addition to the holidays, it’s also a rather hairy month. No shave November is a worldwide event is started November 1st  every year. November is the one month of the year that men and even some women choose to not shave for the entire month with no questions asked.

No shave November or initially called “Movember” for mustache November, was originated in Melbourne, Australia in 2003. The foundation holds formal campaigns in Australia, New Zealand, the US, Canada, the UK, South Africa, Ireland, Finland, the Netherlands, Spain, Denmark, Norway, Belgium and the Czech Republic.

While October is dominated with breast cancer awareness, Movember was started to raise awareness and support for pancreatic cancer and testicular cancer. The funds raised are directed to programs run directly by Movember and their men’s health partners, the Prostate Cancer Foundation and LIVESTRONG Foundation.

When asked about this event senior Jenna Barren said “I think no shave November is hot, but at the same time it’s kind of unsanitary.”

Even if you are not participating in no shave November, this event has shown support and raised awareness throughout the world.

“I’m not doing no shave November. I really don’t want my legs to be manly.” Junior Courtney Fox also said

No matter the country or city, Movember continues to work to change attitudes of men about their health not just in November, but all year round.
