Last Friday the Lewis-Palmer Hockey team faced Kent Denver for their first match of the season.  The match was held at Colorado Sports Center.

The energy was high with fans from both Palmer Ridge and Lewis-Palmer. Unfortunately the team was unsuccessful losing 3-1. Many hope that this year the Rangers will be on a path to victory and bring here another state championship.

This year the team lost many of their former teammates, but fortunately gained many new freshman players. After the last years tragic loss at the quarter finals, the team hopes to learn from their mistakes and move on.

“It’s fun to be back playing hockey with the team,” senior goalie Lucas Palonen said.

The support from the crowd was great. There were many ups and downs in the game but the Rangers cheered on as they always do. The crowd was so crazy that one student was asked to leave the game after his comments made towards Kent Denver.

“I’m so grateful for everyone who came and cheered in the crowd. I hope they come back,” team captain senior Matt Purdhomme said.

Lewis-Palmer kept the lead during the first two periods, but Kent Denver grabbed the lead during the end.

The Ranger team didn’t play their best Friday night due to the struggles that come with working with new team. Lewis-Palmer was better than Kent Denver, but they are just starting the season and learning to work as a team. Coach Fillo was working with new players and seeing how they play in a game situation.

“We were the better team but Kent Denver had a good goalie. The main intention of this game was to test our skill with our new teammates, but some of us just showed off. This loss was an eye opener and hope to win our next game,” Purdhomme said.

The team has many more games left this season. They hope to do very best and maintain the top seat in the state.
