As each new year rolls in, people of all ages reflect on the previous year and what they could have done differently to make the year better. New Year’s resolutions are a great way for everyone to try to improve themselves and make the most of the new year.

The types of resolutions a person can make are nearly endless. Some resolutions include working out more, eating healthier, doing better in school, being a kinder person, letting yourself chill out and relax, and many others.

“I make resolutions to do better in school, be a better person, and never give up,” senior Kelli Melville said.

Sophomore Emily Barton is also among those that try to improve themselves at the start of the new year.

“I had a couple resolutions, but my main one was to try to let myself take a break from my busy school life and relax a bit,” Barton said.

Students are not the only ones who try to improve their lives in each new year. Spanish teacher Mr. Miller is also one who likes to try to change things up at the beginning of each year.

“I like to make resolutions to try to make the new year better than the last. It’s a good way for me to make a goal and try to achieve it,” Mr. Miller said.

Although many people do make resolutions, many don’t find them necessary. Mrs. Sarah Oberndorfer, campus supervisor and study hall teacher, is one of many who doesn’t make New Year’s resolutions.

“I know better than to make resolutions because I know I could never keep them,” Mrs. Oberndorfer said.

Mrs. Oberndorfer isn’t the only one who doesn’t make resolutions at the start of each new year. Some students, such as junior Andrew Camp, also don’t find making resolutions necessary.

“I have never made resolutions. It’s never been a tradition,” Camp said.

Whether resolutions are made or not, the beginning of each new year is a great time for people of all ages to consider how they could make the new year even better than the previous year.
