America debates on enforcement against gun violence

On January 12, 2013 President Barack Obama signed 23 executive actions pertaining to gun control and gun violence in the United States. After the deadly shooting at the Aurora theatre and the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Newton, Connecticut, regulations legislative action has been taken against gun violence in the US.

The US is debating on the issue of gun violence in America and whether or not it should be enforced on American citizens. In spite of this, some government officials are debating if background checks and permits for gun control are necessary.

“I agree with background checks,” Jean Salley, a teacher’s assistant said.

After the Aurora Theater and Sandy Hook Elementary shootings the US government issued a press conference in response. What they came up with was law enforcements against gun control.

“I disagree, because even though there are some stupid people in the world, people still need protection. And people would just buy the guns illegally which would cause more crime,” a senior Breanna Seydel said.

The enforcement against gun control is all well and good, but what about the criminals? Is it not the criminal who enforces the pain on the victim? No matter if it is a gun or a knife, it always comes down to the person handling the weapon that inflicts the most harm.

In most cases involving destructive harm, most of these people don’t even bother speaking to a counselor based on believing that they wouldn’t understand what was going on.

If we were to try and help those who want to inflict pain by shooting others or any type of harm, then the world might be a brighter place. If we could speak out towards these people, and reach out to them, instead of keeping quiet and thinking it will pass, then, maybe there will be less criminal acts.

The weapons are harmless unless picked up and used to hurt someone. The person handling the weapon needs to be dealt with.

Background checks are very intelligent in finding out information about the buyer, but passing laws against gun control won’t do very much. People will just go ahead anyway and illegally buy the gun and do whatever they want with it. Let law enforcement be against the criminals, not the weapon.
