The Winter X Games have come to a close once again. The best of the best come to compete and earn their spot for the X Games gold. A field of seven contenders is trying to make their dent in the Winter X Games.

A Superpipe is a big version of a U-shaped half pipe of snow. The walls extend to near ninety degree vertical on both sides. The walls are sixteen feet tall and the width is twenty five feet at a minimum. Some call Shaun White the “Superpipe Master.”

White won his Sixth metal in a row for the Superpipe event this year. He broke a world record reaching a twenty four foot jump above the Superpipe. White has won thirteen gold medals in the X Games over the years.

He also scored the highest score of the X Games this year, a 98.00 almost a perfect score. Second place was Ayumu Hirano, he was 5.67 points behind Shaun with a 92.33. White is on the top of his game, getting better and better every year.

Shaun White is the oldest participant this year in the X Games; he is twenty six years old. His best competitor is fourteen year old Ayumu Hirano, he is from Japan. Hirano is the youngest athlete to ever metal in the Winter X Games.

Hirano’s performance this year has made him many fans because people are wondering how long till he is as good as White.

“It will be interesting to see if Ayumu Hirano’s jumps can match up to Shaun’s next year. In till someone can jump as high as Shaun White they will never beat him.” Teacher Phil Gooding said.

Finishing in third place was Markus Malin. Malin is twenty four years old and always has consistent results.  This is not the first time that Malin has been in the top five. He had a fourth at the X Games in 2011 and an eleventh in World Cup in 2010.

As the X Games end, people are anxious for the 2014 Winter X Games to see who will come to compete for their chance to beat Shaun White and get a gold metal.
