Every year during second semester Lewis-Palmer’s student council throws Snowball, a winter themed dance. Although it is not quite as popular among the students as other dances such as homecoming or prom, Snowball is still thoroughly enjoyed by many of the students who attend.

The theme for this year’s dance was “Coloradical”. The dance tried to display all of the unique aspects of Colorado.

In the main entrance to the dance, several snowflakes of all different shapes and sizes were hanging from the ceiling. A fake fireplace with a wooden chair and a tree were right underneath the television in the lobby. Next to the check in, which was under a “Welcome to Colorful Colorado” sign, was a cut out of two skiers in the mountains with the personalized “Coloradical” across the top.

Once entering the commons, where the dance was held, the students were greeted with a very unique “Coloradical” sign made out of different elements that represent our state. For example the first “c” was made with the design of the state flag while other letters were made out of mountains, snowflakes, bear paws, skiers and so forth.

Hanging from the center was a chandelier made of lit up paper lanterns. The back wall was covered with the state flag of Colorado and the poles were wrapped in red, yellow and blue gossamer, the colors of the flag.

The DJ, who was also the same that played for homecoming, played a wide variety of different songs. The song choices ranged from the latest hits such as Thrift Shop by Macklemore and Scream and Shout by Will.I.Am. and Brittney Spears to oldies such as Don’t Stop Believing by Journey and Take Me On from the classic movie Dirty Dancing.

Sophomore Ethan Liss was one of many who greatly enjoyed themselves.

“I had a great time at the dance; it was fun dancing with my friends,” Liss said.

The students, however, were not the only ones who enjoyed the dance. Several of the chaperones also had good things to say about snowball.

Mr. Miller, a chaperone for the dance, also significantly enjoyed himself.

“There was a great turn out for snowball and the DJ was great,” Miller said.

Snowball 2013 was a huge success and hopefully next year’s dance will be even better.
