Hansel & Gretel, a rated R, German- American horror fantasy film, that stars Jeremy Lee Renner (Hansel) and Gemma Christina Arterson (Gretel), came out in theaters on January 25, 2013.

This fantasy film is about a twin brother and sister who live deep in witch infested woods and who are abandoned by their father. Hansel and Gretel lived alone in the forest for 15 years. Growing up, they decided to get revenge on the witch who took their mother’s life, along with the whole witch population.

Throughout their lives, Hansel and Gretel go from town to town killing witches whom they were paid to kill. However, upon their arrival to a small town named Augsburg, they stumbled upon a young woman who was about to be executed. As it turns out, she was a White Witch.

The White Witch, Mina, played by Pihla Viitala, explained to Hansel that not all witches are evil. When Hansel didn’t believe her, he battled with a witch in the forest, and got injured. Hansel wakes in Mina’s cabin with her tending to his wounds. Eventually, Hansel falls in love with Mina.

Meanwhile, there is an evil witch played by Famke Beumer Janssen, out to get Gretel. The witch needs her for an ancient ritual so that will enable the witches will be immune to fire; their only weakness.

Hansel tries his hardest to stop the evil witch from taking Gretel, but he fails. He tracks the evil witch all the way to a sacred place used for only dark witch rituals. There, he fights a great battle with the help of Mina, and they stop the evil witch and her accomplices.

Although the movie was very gory, I enjoy the action and thrill of the film. I liked it a lot more than I thought I would. I would recommend this movie for action seekers.
