TCAP is a state wide test that all schools are required to give to their students. In the past, third graders to tenth graders are required by the state to take TCAP. This will change next year; third graders to twelfth grades will have to take this test.

Juniors and seniors did not have to take TCAP in the past. They would come to school late after the freshmen and sophomores are finished taking the test.

The senior class is escaping the test when they graduate this year. The younger students are very unhappy about this change. Some say that if they have to take the test as a junior and senior then the senior class from this year should have to take them.

“I do not want to take TCAP when I’m a junior and senior because the classes before us did not have to take the test,” freshman Nicole Clark said.

Some students get very stressed during the TCAP testing week. The testing on top of all the school work can be overwhelming.

“The fact that we have to take TCAP our junior and senior year is cruel because I believe that it will put too much pressure on us as students,” freshman Meghan Schaefer said.

TCAP can make students believe that the TCAP testing is more important than focusing on class work. The test results will reflect back on teachers, but does not affect student’s grades.

TCAP has been around for a long time to compare a schools score to the other schools in the states. The students at Lewis Palmer are not happy with the change. The seniors of 2013 have avoided TCAP for the past two years, while juniors, sophomores, and freshmen will have to take them for the rest of high school.
