North Korea’s attack threat hits home

There has recently been speculation about Colorado possibly being a target of North Korea’s nuclear warfare. There have been theories regarding Colorado Springs, specifically, being a target of North Korea because of the NORAD (North American Aerospace Defense Command) center located in El Paso County near Colorado Springs; on the Peterson Air Force Base.

North Korea’s president Kim Jong-un assumed the official title only about two years ago. His father, Kim Jong-il, was an official heir for 20 years but died of a stroke in December of 2011.

In December 2012, North Korea successfully tested a multi-stage rocket, proving that they have mastered technology needed for building ballistic missiles that can reach America. The country also attempted a missile launch on the United States earlier in the year. However, the missile failed to reach America and landed somewhere in the Pacific Ocean.

Many anticipated that North Korea would conduct a missile launch on April 15th in order to commemorate founder Kim II-sung’s birthday but this did not occur. Many sources convey that it is not very likely that we, as a country, are in any danger at the moment.

In the future, Colorado is one of North Korea’s targets, according to a propaganda video released April 12th. This video, released by the state-run media organization titled Uriminzokkiri, includes threats to launch untested KN-08 missiles at the following U.S. cities: Honolulu, Washington, Los Angeles and Colorado Springs. The voice in the video discusses the plan to launch a missile at the home of a number of important military installations. However, the video’s location of Colorado Springs is about 1,000 miles off; the given arrow points to an area in the southeastern part of the U.S. instead.

Given that the video misjudges the location of Colorado Springs and also that many people have no belief the missiles could reach that far, it might be safe to say Colorado Springs is not in danger right now. It’s not really possible to try and predict what the outcome of this difficult situation will be, but citizens of the U.S. as a whole are hoping Kim Jong-un will either fail at the attack or decide not to go through with it.
