During the 676 days that you spend in high school, there are many firsts and lasts that a student at LP will experience. With these 676 days coming to an end, the senior Rangers are thinking back on their four years of high school.
Every student will have their first day of high school. During freshman year, a student will take 780,780 breaths during school alone. A first kiss might be given and they will experience their first homecoming dance.
For some students it is their first time joining a club, trying out for the school play, or playing a sport.
Freshman year of high school is full of firsts. The excitement is uncontrollable at first but it soon fades into daily routine.
Sophomores continue their normal routine in high school their second year. During sophomore year a student may have their first serious relationship, but also their first heart break.
Playing on a varsity field may be a first for some students. Each year sophomores celebrate the last TCAP test that they will ever take.
Sophomores also begin to drive for the first time, either getting their permits or driver’s license. Students in their second year at LP will have 31 bad Mondays, but thankfully there will be 33 fantastic Fridays.
Junior year is a big year for many LP students. It is the first time that they will take standardized tests for college like the ACT, the first time they will take AP classes, and the first time that they have to think of their future seriously.
Juniors also experience prom for their first time. For some juniors, it is their first time having to juggle a job on top of school, sports, and other school activities. As a student’s junior year comes to an end they look forward to being a senior.
Senior year is the year that everything comes together. A senior becomes very independent and realizes the difference between fantasy and reality as college applications pile on top of school work. Senior Rangers feel the pressures of real life as college approaches.
Seniors savor every experience knowing it could be their last: their last school dance, last sporting event, last time in the play, last assembly, last time opening their locker, and the last time walking down the halls of LP.
With all of these lasts, it is important to remember the good things that have come from high school and concentrate on the pleasant memories of the firsts that we have experienced.
