The Mortal Instruments: Very disappointing to fans

Molly Reynolds, Ranger Review Reporter

The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones recently came out in theaters. This book-to-movie adaptation was highly anticipated by many fans, and many may be wondering if it’s worth going to see.  I would give it three out of five stars. There are several good things about the movie but also a lot of things that the cast and crew could have done better.

For anyone looking to see an action packed movie that involves a lot of fight scenes and drama, this is the movie to see. However, it does not follow the book, and is not worthy of the title The Mortal Instruments. If you want to see a movie that follows up to the book you will be very disappointed.

The movie does a very poor job of portraying Cassandra Clare’s novel. Poor casting is one of the largest flaws in the movie. Many essential characters do not meet their description from the book at all. This greatly takes away from the appeal of the movie.

Another flaw is the plot. The movie loosely follows the book. It is barely recognizable as The City of Bones. Many essential scenes are missing, and a majority of the movie is fight sequences that are poorly staged and filmed.

There are some good things about the movie though. The Mortal Instruments characters quote lines directly from the book, a feature that is not often seen in movies. This definitely added to the allure of the movie.

This movie was not worth the $8.50 that I paid to see it, and as a fan of the Mortal Instruments, I was very disappointed, however it is a good fast paced action movie.
