Almost all students at Lewis-Palmer High School have either an off period or a study hall.  Everyone with an off period wants it at a convenient time in order to do the most homework, or to be able to leave school early or arrive late.

Many students leave campus for various locations including restaurants or stores, their houses or even jobs.  However, some students cannot leave for their off period, for various reasons.

“It stinks when you have siblings and you have to wait [at school] for them,” junior Karen Nitcher said.

Freshmen and sophomores typically have a study hall instead of an off period so they do not share the same mindset as upperclassmen on that subject.  Many freshmen and sophomores are given time to do their homework and study, but some go to the library or the High Tech Space.

“I do homework, listen to music, and study,” freshman Ian Edgar said.

Most upperclassmen prefer having an off period to a study hall because they have more freedom and are not forced to stay in a class room environment.

“I typically go out into the pod or sit in the classroom and work. I get more work done in the classroom because there are few distractions,” sophomore Katherine Joyal said.

No matter the grade or class or how their study hall or off period is spent, the majority of LPHS students devote time to doing homework as well as being social.
