The Croods, a 2013 DreamWorks animated film, just came out on DVD. It features the voices of Nicolas Cage, Emma Stone, Ryan Reynolds, Catherine Keener, Clark Duke, and Cloris Leachman as the main characters of this fun family movie.

The setting of The Croods is set way back in the fictional prehistoric times in a fictional age known as the Croodaceous period.  This delightful movie is about a loving cave family and young cave girl named Eep, who questions her way of life, when they live the same life every day. And she starts to rebel due Grug, her overprotective father’s strict rules.

Grug’s position as the leader of the hunt is threatened with the arrival of a prehistoric mastermind named Guy, and his new ideas and inventions such as fire. And Guy must help the Crood family find a new home after their cave is destroyed.

Traveling through a wonderful and exciting new world, the Croods encounter many strange and interesting animals and things they have never seen before. Guy teaches them how to survive outside their tiny cave home while on their way to a new home.

This fun filled family adventure is great for any age. While entertaining for small children it’s also humorous for adults of all ages. I personally thought it was a very funny animated movie and I generally enjoyed it.

However, it could have been slightly frightening for small children in the beginning of the movie due to the graphic nature. Some of the characters were very animal –like, with actions such as scratching and biting one another for a scrap of food.

Other than that small scene it was very entertaining nonetheless.
