The Resurrection of a Fandom

The Resurrection of a Fandom

Molly Reynolds, Ranger Review Reporter

Harry Potter was the book series that defined our generation’s childhood.  With seven books and eight movies, it is the largest grossing book and movie franchise in history. This beloved series has left the limelight in recent years since the last movie and book came out more than three years ago.

Now Harry Potter is coming back. In a Jesus-like resurrection, there will be a brand new Potter movie coming out. It is not about any of the characters we know and love, but rather a spinoff of a certain textbook that Harry, Ron, and Hermione had in their first year.

The movie will be based on Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. It will not feature Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, or Dan Radcliffe as it takes place fifty years before their characters were born, but it might feature some of the older characters, like Dumbledore and Hagrid. Many fans are looking forward to seeing a new story about Newt Scamander.

This gives fans a chance to learn more about the magical creatures they encountered in the books and beasts that we’ve never heard of before. J.K. Rowling wrote this book, Tales of Beetle the Bard, and Quidditch through the Ages as spin offs of books mentioned in the series. Hopefully we will soon see the other two come to the screen.
