Lewis-Palmer School District 38 in Monument, Colorado recently proposed a new Mill Levy Override  for $49 million.

The 3A levy would increase taxes slightly so that the schools could receive more funding for education. There were signs all over Monument running down the side of the roads, standing in private lawns and surrounding Lewis-Palmer High School to encourage citizens to vote.

The money was going to help students become better prepared for college in areas such as performing arts, science, technology and more. The election could help improve the variety of education in District 38.

The money would also help students that need extra assistance and provide for smaller class sizes. Receive additional funds would also increase security to make the schools a safer place.

Voters voiced their opinions at the Monument police station on November 5, 2013. District 38’s levy did not pass on Tuesday. Out of 13,238 voters 9,866 people (74.53%) voted to not pass the 3A $49 million mill levy.
