Many aspiring female artists have recently become more well-known than ever before; whether they are making debuts or have been around for a while and have just recently been discovered by the majority of the public. Among these are artists such as Lana Del Rey, Miley Cyrus, and Lorde.

Twenty-seven year old Elizabeth Grant or better known by her stage name, Lana Del Rey, has been writing songs since age eighteen and released an album in 2005. However, her 2nd album, Born to Die, released in January of 2012 caused her to acquire a newfound and much larger fan base.  Not only did she get more fans’ attention, she sold over 5 million copies worldwide of the album and earned 5th best-selling album of 2012.

Lana is but one of the hardworking, attention-grabbing musicians of this era. Along with Rey’s 50s and 60s Americana/alternative genre and style emerges another artist who has been famous for over half of her life but has just recently begun striving to target other audiences.

Twenty year old Miley Cyrus has not only surprised the public by establishing a whole new look and reputation for herself but she has transformed her music as well. The former Disney star has made a breakthrough by changing her overall image.

Cyrus has distanced herself from her innocent Hannah Montana days and has created a wide range of controversy between her fans. Of course, while some of her fans have been upset by Miley’s behavior, change of style and alteration of her music, many others have been intrigued and she has certainly gained fame.

Miley’s music began maturing earlier in 2009 and 2010 when her previous Disney-parting albums had been released but her newest Bangerz album, released October 4th of 2013, which features explicit songs and lyrics that target a more mature audience that her Hannah Montana crowd,  has proven to raise controversy. Despite the various opinions everyone seems to have on Miley Cyrus’ new way of life and image, her changes have earned her success and the number one album in the U.S.

The ambitious New Zealand native songwriter, Lorde has rapidly made her way into the music scene and added her unique style into the modern mix. Lorde’s art/indie/electro pop music entices many different types of people, including many Americans who discovered her talent. Lorde’s song “Royals” caused her to be named the first New Zealand solo artist to have a number one song in the U.S.

Many artists with unique talent have emerged into the music scene in the last few years. Lana Del Rey, Miley Cyrus, and Lorde are only a mere few of artists who have recently made it big. Their fans are excited for what the future has in store for these artists.
