The new show airing on CW, Reign, has made a dramatic debut onto television. The first episode aired on October 17, 2013, and is one of TV’s hottest new dramas. Reign, the story of Queen Mary of Scotland is about the journey from the age of six to seventeen and her claim to the thrown despite challenges by her arranged marriage with Francis, future king of France.

Queen Mary is accompanied by her four ladies in waiting who each have separate life dramas of their own. Their duty to be Queen Mary’s subject while finding their own romance causes various other problems.

Mary, however, struggles to be independent and keep her country from the invasion of the English which provides a whole new set of obstacles. What makes this show above average is the collection of royal gowns and eclectically different music on the soundtrack.

Gowns truly fit for a modern day royal are seen on the show, and are made by current designers such as Alexander Mcqueen, Oscar de la Renta, and Dolce and Gabbana. Some dresses even topped ten million dollars.

The soundtrack, however, provides distinct differences from any other show, setting Reign apart. With bands like London Grammar, Bastille, and The Lumineers, this show became quickly popular with its choice of music alone.

Reign conquers most other shows because it incorporates history, romance, fashion, and good music all in one. Aussie actors Toby Regbo, Adelaide Kane, and Torrance Coombs are what makes this series special and worth watching. I would recommend this show to anyone who wants a good bit of love with a tinge of darkness.
