Yet another of Lewis-Palmer’s athletes has been recognized on a national scale. Alexa Smith, junior, plays outside hitter for LP’s varsity volleyball team. Recently, Smith won the award of Junior of the Year, which means she was named as the number one player as an eleventh grader throughout the whole nation.

“I’m really honored to get it [the award] out of all the juniors in the nation. It’s really humbling,” said Smith.

Smith has been playing volleyball since she was in 2nd grade, starting at the YMCA, then to club teams, and then making her way to play varsity at Lewis-Palmer. According to her, it is all the different coaches she’s had and teams she has played for that have influenced her performance. Smith has been also been accepted to Perdue University to play volleyball collegially.
