Students at the University of Arizona have always been amazing fans for the Wildcats athletes, especially their men basketball team.  Supporting them through their losses and celebrate with them when they win.

Many of the students will go out of their way and fly or drive down to their games that are held in other states, just to watch them play and cheer them on. Several of the games that they played were packed with screaming wildcats.

Generally, the fans of Arizona are good supporters of their teams even when they lose, but on March 29th, after Arizona lost to Wisconsin in the Elite Eight game, Wildcat fans grew wild. They were furious because the refs made some calls that they didn’t think should have been called which cause Arizona to lose.

Students made their way out into the streets after the game was over and started chanting “UOFA”, starting a riot, police starting showing up to try to get them to stop.

The night ended with no injuries, but fifteen fans being arrested for offenses such as resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and unlawful assembly. They ended up releasing fourteen of those people, and keeping one. The one, who was not released, but was sent to Pima County Jail.

Although being a good fan and supporting the team someone likes is a great thing to do and helps build the team’s confidence, there is a time to draw the line. Being a fan should not mean that when the team loses, they are rude to or harass the winning team just because they are upset by the loss.
