Kevin Brooks, senior at Lewis-Palmer High School, sees going to West Point as more than a desire, it’s a family tradition. Brooks’ family has been in the military for 300 years.

“West Point also offers a fantastic education, career right out of college, and the opportunity to serve the country.” Brooks said.

There is quite a process to getting accepted to the United States Military Academy at West Point. To get in, Brooks must have a high GPA, score well on the ACT or SAT and be involved in many extracurricular activities.

Brooks must then apply for a nominations from the President, Vice President, both senators, and a local congressman.

“You only have to get one nomination, but the more you get the easier it is to get in. You also have to pass the physical examination to be able to get in. Sports help to pass this test.” Brooks said.

To make Brooks’ application look better than the rest, Brooks is taking multiple AP classes, volunteering at Memorial North Hospital, and he has also earned his Eagle Scout award from the Boy Scouts of America.

“The eagle scout award is a very important thing, probably the most important. The service academies love eagle scouts.” said Brooks.

At school, Brooks is the president of the German club, plays on the varsity football team and is a member of the NHS.

Kevin Brooks is a great applicant for West Point and has a great future ahead of him
