For most students at Lewis-Palmer High school last weekend was a time for relaxation and a much needed break from the beginning of the school year. Others spent the weekend updating old technology. Last weekend was the beginning of a new smartphone era; it was the first weekend Apple’s iPhone 6 was available for purchase.

Over the course of three days, over ten million iPhone 6’s were sold worldwide. The new iPhone boasts many innovative new designs and features. Designs include a screen that comes in two sizes, 4.7 inches and 5.5 inches.

It was originally assumed by critics that the larger model, the 6 plus, would not be as popular as the smaller iPhone 6, but it was reported that the 6 plus was actually in deep demand over the weekend.

“I purchased the iPhone 6 instead of the 6 plus because I wanted a larger screen than my old phone, but I didn’t want something so huge” said Cristina Fredrico, 10, who previously owned an iPhone 4s.

Many people across the globe had to wait in line for hours upon hours for their new iPhone, some New Yorkers even decided to camp outside in front of Apple stores before its release. In other places, the wait was very minimal, with almost no lines at all.

“I only waited about five minutes,” Fredrico said, “I just showed up at Best Buy. It was definitely worth it.”

With the release of the iPhone 6, came iOS 8, Apple’s newest software optimized for the new phones. iOS 8 is available for all iPhones model  4s and newer. The software boasts multiple new apps that make operating the iPhone 6 easier than any previous iPhone.
