On Tuesday, September 30, 2014 the End of Summer Concert for Lewis-Palmer High School received three standing ovations. The concert featured the jazz band, percussion ensemble and symphonic band, all of which received one standing ovation each.

The symphonic band was the first to perform, completing an amazing performance of The Star Wars Saga by John Williams. The next performance was the percussion ensemble played Ritual of the Tribe by Chris Brooks, which included many fast changes and difficult transitions.

“I really enjoyed the Ritual of the Tribe because it had a really impressive beat,” junior Katherine Swaim said. “The gong was amazing, and the whole thing was just plain awesome.”

The final group to play that night was the jazz band. While the symphonic band and the percussion ensemble only played one piece of music each, the jazz band played three different pieces, Groovin’ Hard by Don Menza, Saturday Night Blues by Les Hooper and Sun Cat by Jay Bocook. Sun Cat was the final performance in the show.

The student musicians were impressed with the amount of people that showed up, but they still thought more should have attended.

“I expected some of the band members who didn’t play tonight to show up,” Noah Wolboldt, 10, said. “It’s good that they did, but it would be nice to see some more non-band students at the next concert.”

The Lewis-Palmer High School band members are sending a message through their music that no one beats the Rangers, especially in music.
