Amy Cooper a junior at Lewis-Palmer High School has an interesting hobby, horse jumping. A sport where a rider guides her horse through a course of jumps of varying heights. She has been jumping horses for six years, and has been riding horses regularly for far longer than that. She began riding when she was very young.

“I love horses, and the bonds I form with them,” Cooper said.

Over the years she had many different horses that she trained with and countless more than those with which she competes. She currently trains with five horses for jumping competitions and trains new horses for other people as well.

All of her training takes place at the  Forest Edge Farm in Black Forest, and her favorite part is when she makes it over a new, higher jump. She has won several awards for her sport and usually places among the top three when she competes. Besides horseback riding she has other hobbies outside of school.

For the past three years, she has competed on the District 38 Field Hockey team and plays club outside of the regular school season. She also likes reading when she does get some free time from horse jumping and field hockey.

“I really enjoy riding through the course as the horse jumps,” Cooper said.

She plans to take her love of horseback riding all the way to college to not only compete but also study as a veterinarian for her career.
