Sophia’s cello

Tristyn Park, Ranger Review Reporter

Many students at Lewis-Palmer High School invest their time in things that possess them to  express themselves. Students will  pour their soul into sports, or theatre, or art, or even music. Sophia Ressler,11, is one of these students. For six years, Ressler has been immersing her life into her cello. After her instrument found her, she became passionate about the music she was making.

“We had, like, an instrument zoo in fifth grade. I don’t know why, but I was kind of drawn to the cello,” Ressler said. “I absolutely would recommend starting an instrument to anyone. Personally, it has helped me with stress, and school. If I ever need a break from, like, homework I can just take a break and play. I really enjoy it,” Ressler said.

She may play a lot in her free time at home; however, that is not the only place she plays. Sophia is an avid member in the Colorado Springs Youth Symphony. This symphony is an orchestra consisting of high schoolers and is an audition only band.

It takes a lot of experience and patience to get in, so it is incredibly special if you make it in. Ressler and the symphony has a performance this Saturday, December 12, at Wasson High School. The group travels and performs at schools and for businesses across the front range.  Ressler is one of the many cello players in the orchestra and she adores it.

“It’s pretty fun, sometimes it is a little stressful, but it’s so much fun. We will play your typical classical stuff but sometimes we’ll perform pieces from musicals and such,” Ressler said.

Sophia has no intention of giving up on her cello any time soon and plans to play into adulthood. She will continue to spend her time with her precious music.
