Every year, Lewis-Palmer High School holds an assembly to inform students of how dangerous driving can be and the assembly provides students with smart driving techniques. The Drive Smart assembly presentation shows us how the mistakes we make on the road can impact our whole life, as well as the lives of others.

“The Drive Smart assembly really opened my eyes on how you should not drive with teenagers who under the influence or drugs or alcohol because it is very unsafe,” said Emily  Coe, 9.

These assembly’s talk about how people’s bad choices and experiences can change lives.

Assembly speaker Keith Deltano believes that using harsh realities in assemblies such as the Drive Smart assembly can directly impact the students.  He also uses comedy shows to help share his knowledge and experience to impact students. These assemblies show that the mistakes he has made can be prevented in the end. (“Anti-bullying School Assemblies.” Bully Assembly Speaker).

The school holds these assemblies to try to reach out to students and persuade them to make the right decisions on the road. “The assembly opened my eyes to be more careful about who would be driving,” said Emily Coe, 9.

Mrs. Boone, an English teacher at Lewis-Palmer High School, has seen many assembly’s in her years as a teacher and is used to the presentations. The student crowd, however, is in awe each year, especially the freshmen who have not seen the assembly before. “We got the reaction from the crowd we hoped to get, to get our point across,” said Boone.
These emotional, annual assemblies have a different impact on everyone. With both negative and positive parts of each story presented, the assemblies shape the students. “My cousin got into a car accident and it greatly affected my family so this assembly really spoke to me,” said Coe. “It’s an eye opener,” said Coe.
