The soccer season has begun for the Lewis-Palmer Girls Team and each of the players put their cleats on, got their soccer balls out for the season and went across the street from Lewis-Palmer High School to the YMCA; where the tryouts for JV team were held.

Lindsey Estes, freshman at Lewis-Palmer High School tried out for her place on the JV Rangers soccer team, while Moira Hilton, freshman, was also trying out for her spot on the JV team.

“What I am mostly excited for this year in the season is being with all of my good friends and win as many games as we possibly can as a team,” Estes said.

The second day of tryouts, the girls’ grabbed their partners and started off practicing some simple skills, such as practicing kicks into the goals and afterwards they went into playing games head to head against their partners’ in a scrimmage where the coaches could see their skills in action.

“Our goal this year, as a team, is to win most of our games and go into state because we have a really good chance of beating our biggest rivalry, Cheyenne Mountain High School. We have a lot of very good and talented girls on our team and I am very excited to compete with them,” Hilton said.

During those two days of tryouts, the girls’ did their warm ups across the field and started the scrimmage games afterwards. They ran as quickly as they could to make a goal on the opposite side of the field.

“My goal is to do the best I can in the games and when I’m on the side lines, I will be cheering my teammates on so that they feel at least a little bit confident and not be as nervous,” Estes said.

Estes plays on the field for three minutes in every quarter and the rest she sits out with her coach and waits for her turn again to go back into the game.

The soccer tryouts assets the players skill levels to place the girls on the correct school teams.

The girls’ practiced during their tryouts as they would have during a game against the other teams, showing their skills and potential.

“My brother played soccer for quite a while and it gave me motivation for playing it and it became the sport that is really fun and enjoyable for me. It’s a really good feeling when I score and everyone cheers me on. It makes me more motivated and less nervous in the games. I also like it when my brother comes and watches me play,” Hilton said. “I am excited to see how our team will do this year compared to past years.”
