Rivalries between schools are a part of most high school athletics. On Tuesday April 26 the Lewis-Palmer Rangers took on the Palmer Ridge Bears in Junior Varsity and Varsity soccer matches.

“I felt that at first we were not prepared to take on Palmer Ridge, I’ve heard they’re a good team and they’re our rivals so it was a big game for us. This game meant a lot to me because before the season I thought these games wouldn’t matter, but now I’ve learned to love the game,” Rose Bullecks,#24 Junior Varsity, 9, said.

Many fans, people and students go out to support their school teams especially during rivalry games. These fans get to show their school pride while cheering on their team to pull out a win for their school.

“I wanted to be able to brag to my friends I know many people on the Palmer Ridge team,” Ellie Crisler, #13 Varsity, 9, said. “I usually don’t hear the crowd much when I’m focused on the game, but sometimes I hear people supporting us from the stands.”

Rivalry games can include upsides and downsides to either playing in the game or cheering on the teams. The games can end in a loss or a win for either team and in this case the Lewis-Palmer rangers took both wins.

“I was really hoping that we would do well, and that we would communicate on the field while putting everything together. Especially everything that all the coaches taught us and coming together as team,”Bullecks explained.

Lewis Palmer rangers are currently ranked 7th in Colorado while the Palmer-Ridge Bears came into the game with a ranking of 90. Lewis Palmer JV won the first game with a final score of 3-0 against the Bears.

“I expected that we will win and I was glad that I got to play against my friends while getting the opportunity to get better. So glad we got to play our rivals I thought the coaches prepared us really well,” Lily Parmeter,#3 Junior Varsity, 9, said.

The varsity game against Palmer Ridge had a final score of 1-0 Lewis-Palmer with the winning goal. Fans were sitting in the snow all bundled up some with signs supporting the Rangers and the Bears in their soccer matches at the stadium.

“We have some really amazing players we worked really hard, I just really wanted to win. I was hoping that we would lead by least four goals, but overall my goal were to get better as a team,” Crisler, #13 Varsity, said. “I wanted us to play our game and come together as one team.”
