Madigan Winchester is a junior who works at Goodwill and thinks that thrift stores have reached a new demographic.

“I applied online and got my job at Goodwill. I started out as someone who sorts through the clothes and chooses which ones we put out. Now, I work on the floor and put clothes on the racks. Since I’ve been working there for nine months, I have seen many different kinds of people come in to shop; I have seen some rich people and some not so rich people. I definitely think that thrifting has become popular because now everyone realizes that you don’t need high-end clothes to look good. You can get cheap clothes and make them look good by styling them, but you don’t need Gucci or anything like that to look good. I don’t really think that most people thrift to be good to the planet and to stop fast fashion, I think most people just thrift because it’s become popular. I’m sure that some people thrift to be better to the environment, but I don’t think most people do. I really enjoy shopping at Goodwill personally and I may not be able to get first picks on clothes, but I do get a discount.”
