Advanced placement classes have helped many students find out what they’re interested in and has helped them figure out what they would like to pursue in their future.

Ms. Dellinger, a teacher at Lewis-Palmer  who teaches AP Language and Composition, claims “AP classes are important because they could give students an opportunity to get credit or possibly give them a chance to get a head start on what college is like. They might even duplicate a college atmosphere or they do some college level work in a high school environment.”  Ashley McAmis, 10, says “It gives you a sense of how college classes are going to be so you develop that work ethic and see what it’s going to be like in college.”

The AP classes move quickly, getting many topics achieved throughout the semester.“I like the faster pace of the AP class, I like the higher level thinking that is done and I really like the material.” Dellinger says.

AP classes are for higher-thinking students that are ready for a challenge.  Having advanced placement classes here show that our students are capable of high-level thinking.

The language and composition class has an assignment that allows you to study an outside-of-school topic that helps students learn and understand a topic they are highly interested in and might even consider pursuing as a career. The AP classes here at Lewis-Palmer have many opportunities to do something in a classroom environment involving their interests outside of school.

There are twenty advanced placement classes in the school. These include classes such as Language and Composition, European History, Psychology and much more. Our school has many AP class options to get the interest of the students. Having so many advanced placement subjects also means that even if a student isn’t interested in a certain subject, they have the choice to choose a subject that they would be interested in, it would challenge them and maybe even get them college credit. Even if you don’t have a specific interest in one of the classes, you might even enjoy it. “You don’t have to necessarily love English to take this class. This class gets a lot of people who are more math and science people but because we do more science fiction type things, you don’t have to be a lover of literature,” says Ms. Dellinger.

AP classes are for students who want to be challenged, and want to take a leadership role. Taking an AP class could help grades, college applications, and makes a student more aware. Advanced placement classes is a way for Lewis-Palmer to challenge the students and motivate them to strive for something greater.
