The Urine Town Play

On Friday November 20th, parents and students came and watched the Urinetown play. The play was really funny and enjoyable from what parents and children had to say.

Carson Schlem, 9, was one of the leaders in the play. Schlem has been doing theatre for three years and counting. Schlem is hoping to do acting through his senior year at Lewis-Palmer.

“The best part of the play was making people laugh and being with my friends.” said Schlem.

Before the play begins, Schlem and his friends would talk to each other and make one another feel better so that they would not feel as nervous.

“It was a lot more fun watching it from where I was than being in the play,”Java Hammitt, 9, who helps with the lighting. Java has stage fright, so she decided to do the lights with her friends instead of being center stage.

“It’s fun being with a group of amazing people,” Hammitt said.

The Urinetown was filled with excitement and laughter for the people who were watching it. People who participated in it worked hard to make the musical the best for the audience. Throughout the play, “The audience laughed as they were having a great time watching the play.” said Hammitt as she was watching from behind the curtain.

“There’s a bunch of talented and amazing people in this play that did an awesome job,”Hammitt said, who was watching the play from the back of the stage. Even the people who were doing the lights were watching the play and laughing.

“It was the best night of my life,” Schlem said. Schlem then visited with his friends and family out in the commons after the play.

After the curtains drew and the last note of the musical faded, the whole crew stood in a line, holding hands and bowing to the immense clapping and cheering. The performers in the play looked as though they were relieved by the success.

When the people were standing and bowing, they all had big and bright smiles on their faces. “We got so many comments from so many people after the play,” Schlem said.

Even Though some people were nervous in the beginning of the play, they later weren’t so afraid because of how much fun they had. The actors were even making themselves laugh throughout the satiric musical.
