The student council at Lewis-Palmer High School has been conducting a dress drives for the charity Restore Innocence. The Dress Drive is a gathering of unwanted formal and informal dresses that will be sold at a Lewis-Palmer High School on April 4. On this day girls are encouraged to try on and buy the dresses that appeal to them. Each dress is offered at a fair price. All of the money earned from the drive will be given to the Restore Innocence charity.
The goal of this charity is to help stop child trafficking from happening. The money raised and any dresses not sold will help the girls who have been victims of trafficking.
Dresses have been donated since the middle of February and donations will end on April 4, the day of the sale. Student council has continued to publicize the event and the fundraiser to help make the community more aware of the charity. Recently student council have put ads on LPTV as well as papers and posters scattered on the walls of the school.
The leader and organizer of the Dress Drive at Lewis-Palmer this year is Emily Barton, 12. She has tried hard to get most of the students involved in the drive, but still needs help with advertising.
“Some of the girls have heard that Palmer Ridge High School has gotten about 100 dresses with their dress drive so we know it’s possible to get at least 100 dresses ourselves. We have been struggling but dresses keep popping up and we are starting to get more and more,” Barton said.
The feud between Lewis-Palmer High School and Palmer Ridge High School still stands when it comes to fundraisers and causes students to participate in the drive. Although both schools have the same fundraiser, the feud can help both schools raise more dresses to sell for Restore Innocence.
