On October 3, supernatural horror film, Annabelle was released into theaters everywhere just in time to stir up some scares before Halloween. The film is both a prequel as well as a spin-off from the widely-known horror movie, The Conjuring.  Complete with a haunted house, demons and a terrifying doll, Annabelle is sure to scare anyone who dares to watch it.

Set in the late 1960’s, young couple John and Mia Form anxiously prepare for the arrival of their unborn child.  In an attempt to surprise Mia, John purchases a large doll to decorate the nursery.  That same night, the couple witnesses their neighbors being brutally murdered by a pair of satanic cult followers. The attacker’s attempt to kill both John and Mia, however commit suicide before the police arrive to rescue Mia, who has been wounded.  The importance of this scene happens as the woman attacker lays dying, while holding the new doll that John bought for the nursery. A single drop of blood falls from the woman and lands on the dolls eye. It is apparent, other than the doll’s already frightening appearance, that it has now become possessed with the intent to claim a life.

After a series of strange paranormal events happen at their home nearly killing Mia, the couple move into an apartment so they can raise their infant daughter Leah in peace. Despite the change of scenery, the terrifying events do not end, almost driving Mia into insanity.  It is at this point in the movie that the couple realizes they must do something to stop the possessed doll before it is too late.

Unlike some horror films that have very predictable story directions, Annabelle has several plot twists that are sure to keep the audience wanting to watch more.  For those looking for the perfect Halloween movie, Annabelle is worth a view.
