On December 24th, a majorly controversial film was released across the World. While the movie was not shown in most theatres, it made its way to youtube, Xbox live film and various other movie websites.
The film is a comedy about the fictional killing of North Korea’s dictator, Kim Jong Un. The Picture, produced by Sony Entertainment, was projected to be an enormous box office hit, starring the prized American actors James Franco and Seth Rogen. The movie was heavily marketed and set to open in theatres on Christmas day. A negative response from North Korean officials delayed the day view.
A hacking group called GOP, Guardians of Peace, hacked into Sony’s computer systems on Monday, November 24th, warning Sony that they would leak all the company’s secrets and stolen information if the movie was released.
Eventually, private employee information was obtained by the hackers, and it was believed that North Korea was responsible for the hacking. The event caused many theaters to refrain from airing the movie, but the film was still released on the 25th despite the retaliation and controversy.
Despite all the hardships, many people still viewed the movie and it gained a 7.1 ranking in imdb with great reviews.
