Dancing with the Stars is an American dance competition television series that first premiered in 2005 on the ABC channel. The objective of the show consists of a celebrity paired up with a professional dancer and assigned different dances each week that they need to master. Each couple performs predetermined dances and competes against the others for judges’ points and audience votes to earn the highest score.

The famous show is now airing their 27th season and its first junior Dancing with The Stars where the objective of the show remains the same as for the little dancers.

Dancing with The Stars: Juniors is a spin off of the original show. A professional young dancer is paired with another young famous celebrity and their dances are choreographed by a star on the show. There are 12 junior couples who are mentored by their “big dancers” who compete against their fellow peers.

Some of the famous ‘soon to be pro junior dancers’ already are on shows of their own. Alana Thompson, also known as “Honey Boo Boo”, has a reality series of her own called Here Comes Honey Boo Boo. She also has a spot on Toddlers and Tiaras, where she earned her name from. Honey Boo Boo is paired with Tristan Ianiero and is mentored by Artem Chigvintsev.

“I’ve never even watched the show before to be honest,” Thompson exclusively tells PEOPLE. “I wanted to do it because, when they asked me, I thought this is something that I’ve never done and it’d be super fun and a great experience. So I figured, let’s do it!

According to the TV series final, ratings have been good and ABC should keep hosting the junior competition series, Dancing with the stars Juniors. As the show continues on this season, viewers of PEOPLE hope Dancing with the Stars will host the juniors next season as well due to rating being high for the tiny dancers.
